Employee Hiring Procedures for Colorado Employers
Employers must insure that all new employees complete the following forms:
W-4 -
Form W-4 Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate (Adobe PDF)
I-9 - Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification (Adobe PDF)

In addition to retaining the above 2 forms, employers should complete and retain the
Affirmation of Legal Work Status (Adobe PDF)
and verify the information the employee has provided at one of these two online databases:
Basic Pilot Program - maintained by the Department of Homeland Security. This site allows employers to verify the employment eligibility of all newly hired employees, regardless of citizenship, however, the employer must go through a lengthy initial registraton process before he can use the service.
Social Security Number Verification Service - maintained by the Social Security Administration
This site is for social security number verification - most inquiries are answered instantaneously. Here, too, however, the employer must make the effort to register and, in this case, wait for a user name and password to be mailed to him before he can use the service.
